Whippet 2022

One version of the origin of the whippet leads to miners at a Northumberland mine who loved to watch dog races. They were fascinated by the greyhounds, which were unaffordable for the common people. So they were engaged in breeding a new breed and crossbred greyhounds and terriers. They did very well in hunting rabbits and rats, and soon special competitions were organized for the ancestors of the Whippets. The word "whippet" originated at the end of the 19th century from the expression "whip it", which means "dalli, dalli". A request that is actually written on the body for this greyhound, which is capable of the wildest races, because despite his small stature he has both the aesthetic qualities and the sporting abilities of a large greyhound. He has his very own personality and a very gentle and loving nature. His personality and character are a mixed bag of contradictions and secrets. He looks extremely feline and not as "conceited" as other greyhounds. Its elegance often appears fragile, but it is much more robust and resilient than its external appearance suggests. He is a dog that combines the stark contrasts of greyhound and terrier: on the dog track, he trembles with impatience all over his body or puts in extraordinary sprints on a walk. At home, all his happiness lies in making himself comfortable on a pillow and not moving an inch. If there are other small animals in the household, he can transform himself from a harmless family member into a merciless hunter and the days of cats, guinea pigs, hamsters or birds are numbered.
