Fantastically spectacular pictures from space. Planetary nebulae are astronomical objects and they consist of a shell of gas and plasma that is repelled by old stars at the end of their lives. These colorful nebulae usually only exist for a few tens of thousands of years. A very short period of time when you consider that a star's life can last billions of years.
