Mysterious Megaliths

In Brittany in north-western France, people in the Stone Age erected gigantic structures consisting of thousands of megaliths - large upright blocks of stone. These stones are known as menhirs. Although these menhirs were not carved when they were erected, some of them have recognizable faces. Unfortunately, they do not reveal the secret of what motivated people in the Stone Age to go to such great lengths to erect these stones.
