Haflingers came to North America in 1958, imported by Tempel Farms in Illinois. A breeding program was initiated together with imported Lipizzaners. More Haflinger imports then began and led to the considerable number of breeders in the USA and Canada that we have today.Haflinger horses are a versatile and reliable breed. Originally from the South Tyrol region, they are now widely used as robust leisure riding horses. These horses fall somewhere between ponies and full-sized horses in terms of size. Their friendly disposition and adaptability make them popular for various equestrian activities.
