Dragon city Furth in the forest

Surrounded by the Bavarian Forest Mountains Gibacht, Hoher Bogen and Cerchov, the Bavarian border town of Furth im Wald is located directly on the border with the Czech Republic in the Further Senke. This has always been considered the gateway between Bavaria and Bohemia. The idyllic border town is mainly known for its traditional drama, the “Further Drachenstich”. Germany's oldest folk drama can look back on a five-hundred-year tradition. Every year in August, this cultural festival delights thousands of visitors. The town square then becomes a large open-air stage and the medieval spectacle brings the legend and the fight with the fire-breathing dragon to life. But the dragon is not only present during the festival season, all year round and shapes the cityscape and the traditions of the inhabitants.
