Pirmasens, located on the edge of the Palatinate Forest, got its name from the itinerant preacher Pirminius and was first mentioned in a document in 850. Landgrave Ludwig IX. zu Hessen-Darmstadt, who had a preference for large grenadiers, expanded the place into a garrison town, which then received city rights in 1763. After the landgrave's death and the fall of the garrison, the population made a virtue out of necessity and switched to shoe production, which is why the Pirmasensians are still called "Schlabbeflicker" today. This is not the only reason why people have experienced ups and downs in Pirmasens, because the city is built on seven hills. Let us invite you to take a tour of the city.
