Bisons of North America
The North American bison is considered THE symbol of Indians and the American West. The Indians used it as a general purpose animal for food and built from the remains the most diverse items for everyday use. For the white buffalo hunters, however, the Bison skins were a lucrative business until the animals were almost exterminated. Only the creation of Yellowstone National Park was the remaining bison a protection zone and the stock could recover. Dieter Wilczek, Adventure photographer and Environmentalist, shows the diversity of these impressive animals in their natural environment.

Bisons of North America

The Bison or Indian buffalo is the largest mammal on the North American continent. Through the protection of Yellowstone National Park today large herds are prowling again on the plains and prairies of the American West.
