Machu Picchu - city of the Inca

The well-preserved ruined city of Machu Picchu was built in terraces by the Inca in the 15th century at an altitude of 2360 meters on a ridge in the Andes of Peru. The city consisted of 216 stone structures connected by a system of stairs. Today researchers assume that the city could accommodate and supply up to 1000 people in its heyday. Machu Picchu is one of the largest tourist attractions in South America and is visited by an average of 2000 people every day. UNESCO, which added Machu Picchu to its World Heritage List in 1983, calls for a significant reduction in the number of visitors in order not to endanger the cultural heritage. For this calendar, the photo artist Peter Roder has put together and designed twelve wonderful photos of this ancient Inca city, an impressive companion for the whole year.
