German castles and palaces on the Upper Middle Rhine Part One
The Upper Middle Rhine Valley Cultural Landscape in Germany was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List on 2002. The World Heritage area stretches from Bingen/Ruedesheim to Koblenz over a length of 42 miles along the Rhine's breakthrough valley through the Rhenish Slate Mountains. The uniqueness of this cultural landscape is the extraordinary wealth of cultural evidence. The Upper Middle Rhine Valley owes its special appearance on the one hand to the natural formation of the river landscape and on the other hand to the design by humans. The first part of the Rhine Romanticism calendar series shows 12 castles and palaces from Rüdesheim to St. Goar always with a view from the Rhine.
