The Thuringian Forest is a wooded low mountain range in the Free State of Thuringia, Germany. With a height of up to 982.9 meters above sea level, the Thuringian Forest stretches over a good 1000 square kilometers. This region is a true natural paradise that offers hiking trails, picturesque landscapes and fascinating sights. In the middle of the Thuringian Forest is the UNESCO Thuringian Forest Biosphere Reserve, which not only offers a rich variety of flora and fauna, but also has some superlatives. For example, it is the oldest forest biosphere reserve in Germany. The Vessertal, part of the reserve, was recognized by UNESCO as early as 1979
