Camellias hail from the Asian continent and are found naturally in China, Japan and surrounding countries. The most famous of all camellias in the world is probably Camellia sinensis, whose leaves are sed to produce the world’s most popular beverage: tea. The Camellia japonica was named after the Jesuit botanist, Georg Joseph Kamel, who worked in the Philippines and described a species of camellia. There are more than 200 species and approximately 30,000 varieties of all shapes and colours.
