The Mimram Bridge, or “Passerelle des Deux Rives” in English, Bridge of the Two Banks, is a cable-stayed bridge and crosses the border river Rhine and connects the two cities of Kehl and Strasbourg as a symbol of the growing together of Europe. It was designed by the Parisian architect Marc Mimram as the centerpiece of the cross-border state garden show in 2004. In 2009, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of NATO, the heads of state and government met in the middle of the bridge for a symbolic handshake. Angela Merkel, Nicolas Sarkozy and Barak Obama were also there for the photo op. The 56 hectare park, separated by the Rhine, was designed by the German Rüdiger Brosk.
